As always I'm a terrible blogger. Too much life and not enough time to write about it for largely anonymous blog readers. Job acquired, house acquired, life going happy and well.

I'll be checking in with my monthly resolutions soon.

Nature has been in the forefront recently. It's a nice change of pace.

Paycheck Wishlist

Hey all,

I'm in the thick of job hunting right now. Sometimes I take a break from hunting, and daydream a little about how things will be once I'm employed. My fiancé and I budget an allowance for ourselves after all the life things are paid for, and the savings are tucked away. (Our budget is based on this brilliant read, if you're curious). Lately, I've been saving up things to spend my future allowance on, and I thought I'd share some with you, and prioritize things a bit in the process! (Picture heavy post.)

Learning manual photography, and playing around with high speed.

Where have you gone, July?

July's resolution was learn to play the banjo, way back in the optimism of 2013. July's resolution in practice has been a job hunt. I apply for at least one job everyday, often more. It's funny the way the year shifts and changes, away from the life you grasped at in the past.

My June resolution was more of a success. I promised to cook a meal once a week. Instead I cooked breakfast, lunch, and sometimes dinner for myself, everyday. I have never been much of a cook, but I'm enjoying my new culinary independence. June was a resolution well done, because the habit has stuck.

I have quite a few posts scheduled here, fear not. The hiatus was a natural result of moving across the world.

Talk to you all soon.

Weekend Washi

I, much like every other crafty white girl blogger, love washi tape. Between running my Etsy and visiting Japan (at the amazing Itoya store--more on that later), I've built up a nice collection. Today, I decided to do a quick project I've been contemplating for a while: upgrading my planner.

I am slowly but surely settling back into life at home. I have nothing written for now, but I do have some photos.

In summer, the sun sets through these trees.

The sun reflected so beautifully off these water droplets. They evaporated as I photographed them.

Art supplies are so satisfying and comforting to look at. Paint, washi tape, and yarn are my favorites.
My resolution this month is nothing worth blogging about, and I'm moving soon, so I don't have much time to spare for writing. Hope to be back next month.

12 in 2014: Winding Down March

More time to breathe.
March is almost gone already. Compared to February it flew by. Spring weather is slowly asserting itself in Shanghai, and there have been some lovely days for long walks. There have been some cozy, rainy days too, perfect for a warm cup of coffee and an afternoon of painting.

I love plants. This is Heinrich, the Sedum japonica, or Gold Dots Sedum. I name all my plants.

The Compromise of Living

Last night in America

Around February, the Man and I made a bit of a drastic decision. Aching with wanderlust, and encouraged by our professors, we decided to uproot our lives, and relocate to China for a year. Four months later, we bid goodbye to our friends and families, and hopped on a plane.

12 in 2014: February Success

The Pink Japan Edition

Here are the final pictures for February! I am really thrilled to have actually taken a photo everyday, after not doing so well with yoga in January. I think I'm on my way to taking photos daily as a matter of course, but there are some things I noticed that will make my future resolutions easier to accomplish.

February was quite busy, and on a couple of days I only managed to get one photo in the evening, when I'd panic and realize I'd forgotten. So, I think to further reinforce a habit, I need to schedule a time to do it. Of course photographs happen when they happen--sometimes the moment is just right. Nonetheless, being reminded to take a picture at a consistent time would probably make the impulse more ingrained. I think this is part of the reason I failed at daily yoga. I never wake up at a consistent time, so morning yoga was out of the question. I ended up always doing it in the evening, but the times I did it varied wildly, so it became a burden rather than second-nature.

Overall, I'm calling February a resounding success. We're about one week into March now, and I have continued to take photographs everyday without much effort. I'll post some of my better photos on here every now and then, but you can always check out my full body of work at my Flickr.

12 in 2014: Hello March, Goodbye Internet

Don't you love me anymore?!
March marks the start of the hardest resolution I’ve given myself. This month, I will limit myself to two hours of internet time each day. I’m composing this offline, my Ethernet cable looking at me forlornly, cast from its cozy socket.

The sight of it makes me antsy. That is worrisome.

Resolution Update

The Man and I are back from our birthday/anniversary/honeymoon/vacation extravaganza in Japan. More on that later, suffice it to say, it was incredible, and should you ever have the chance to go to Tokyo--go. For now, here's my week three photos for my 12 in 2014 February resolution. I have the final week of photos waiting to be edited so I can share them. (Spoiler Alert: I succeeded this month!)  For now, here's week 3.

Just a quick post to show off my week two progress. It's been a wild these past days, and the rest of the month promises to be full of adventures.

Yayoi Kusama and the Power of Mental Illness

Several weeks ago, I had the distinct pleasure of attending the Yayoi Kusama exhibit, A Dream I Dreamed, at the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art. The show was stunning, and deeply inspiring.

12 in 2014: January & February

My goal calendar for the month.

I am astonished to say it is February, one month into 2014, and two days into the Year of the Horse. That means it's time for me to report on my January resolution of doing yoga everyday.

Time and the Perception of Failure

Here is an equation for you math majors out there:

Feeling of Failure= Time Passed x Level of Obligation

In other words, it's been a while since I've updated, and I feel terrible. Given that, what better way to return from my blogging absence than to discuss the effects of time on the perception of failure?

January Yoga: Update

I use this calendar, and daily journaling, to keep me honest!
Happy New Year All! I hope the year has treated you nicely thus far. My 2014 has been awfully cold--I'm sure some of you can relate! Regardless, I've managed to keep up with my January resolution of doing yoga once a day. I'm already feeling the benefits, if my sore muscles are any judge. In case anyone wants to join in with me, I thought I would share my tips for doing yoga at home.
